In 2002 we began serving youth in our community by providing an adventurous and educational environment to hundreds of youth each year, which improves self-esteem and physical activity and introduces positive role models to many who might not otherwise experience such meaningful influences.
Not too long ago we were known to our community as “Touchstone Youth Project.” Our founders Andrew and Nicole Hunzicker created Touchstone with the idea of serving youth in our community by providing an adventurous and educational environment for them to be mentored. Over the years we’ve grown and part of that growth was to purchase Rocktown Climbing Gym, which gave us a new home and opportunity to increase the number of youth we could serve.
We are now serving youth with 1:1 mentoring, group activities, healthy meals, physical activity, and of course ADVENTURE! As we have seen great success through pairing mentoring through adventure with rock climbing, we are excited about our new cycling program in partnership with Celestial Bicycles and DNA Racing, which is reaching even more youth in our local community.
Our Executive Director, Steven Charles, has a background in social work, with an emphasis in working with youth. Along with a passion for serving youth, he has a passion for adventure. After 5 years serving as a rock climbing guide, he made the move to working with youth in an educational setting which eventually led him to blending the two worlds. His work with us here has been recognized by the Oklahoma City, and in 2013, he was honored by being selected as one of Oklahoma City’s Top 40 Under Forty.
